20 people rescued, over 100 NDRF personnel engaged in rescue mission

Authorities have asked people to move to a safer place.A massive flash flood in the Khir Ganga river in Uttarkashi washed away many houses in Tharali village on Tuesday, August 5. The flash flood was triggered by a cloud burst.Water carrying silt cascaded into the village and many people are feared to be trapped. There has been no official word on casualties.Rains have hampered the rescue operations. Teams of NDRF and SDRF are rushing to the spot to initiate the rescue operation. The Army, ITBP have also been called in. Authorities have asked people to move to a safer place.Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said a major cloud burst has occurred in Dharali near Harsil.Dharali is the main stopover on the way to Gangotri and is home to many hotels, restaurants and homestays.Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh posted on X, “The news of heavy damage caused by a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region is extremely sad and distressing. SDRF, NDRF, district administration, and other related teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing. In this regard, I am in constant contact with senior officials, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”PM Modi said that all the help is being provided for the rescue operation in the state.“I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I pray for the well-being of all the victims. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji and obtained information about the situation,” PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).“Under the supervision of the state government, relief and rescue teams are engaged in every possible effort. No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people,” he added.The authorities have also reportedly released the helpline numbers for the affected individuals.People can contact at 222722, 01374222126, 9456556431 for any kind of assistance needed, as per News18.  Connectivity lost, bad weather hinders rescue ops”Since road connectivity has been impacted, a bridge has been washed away, we are talking to the officials of BRO, PWD, our priority is to restore connectivity, the weather is bad at present, we are not able to provide relief, and rescue through helicopter services,” Uttarkashi district’s Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu said, as per PTI.”But SDRF, Army are there… Prima facie, it seems that 40-50 properties have got damaged. We are trying to get further information, we will be acting accordingly,” he added.
