The Boeing 787 aircraft took off from Ahmedabad airport at 1:39 pm and crashed into a residential area in Meghaninagar near the airport. Disturbing visuals of casualties including charred bodies of passengers have surfaced online.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aircraft issued a MAYDAY call shortly after departure before losing contact with air traffic control. It then crashed outside the airport perimeter. The cause of the crash is yet to be officially determined.
Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are working at the plane crash site in Ahmedabad, Gujarat at the time of reporting. The US and the UK said it is working closely for emergency support on ground and shared helpline numbers.
UK parliamentarian from Harrow East in Greater London raised the issue at the House. On social media, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his solidarity with passengers and their family and said that he is getting updates as the situation unfolds. “The scenes emerging of a London-bound plane carrying many British nationals crashing in the Indian city of Ahmedabad are devastating,” he wrote.

Russian President Vladimir Putin too penned a message of condolences addressing Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Kindly convey the words of sincere sympathy and support to the families and near ones of the victims as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured in this catastrophe,” Putin wrote.
