As Donald Trump hosts Pak Army Chief for lunch, netizens dish out memes

Date:

US President Donald Trump, on Wednesday, hosted Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House, just weeks after a four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan. The meeting takes place amidst escalating tensions between the two longstanding enemies, Israel and Iran, with both countries engaging in a deadly exchange. While the two were busy having a nice meal together, social media users had a completely different take on the meeting.
The White House meet-and-greet session has sparked a mix of reactions online, with some users drawing humorous parallels to Bollywood dramas.
Despite the meeting’s serious geopolitical background, particularly in light of the Israel-Iran conflict, netizens can’t help but meme-ify the encounter. Many have described the White House meeting in the most ROFL way imaginable, using memes featuring scenes from Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri’s film Rishtey (2002), And Sadashiv Amrapurkar’s Popular Moment from Ishq (1997).

Take a look at some of the memes here:

On X, a user posted a clip from Rishtey and wrote, “Donald Trump with Asim Munir in the White House”.

Another wrote, “Donald Trump and Asim Munir’s exclusive video from the White House.”

Asim Munir shopping in the US? Viral video claims

Did Asim Munir go mall hopping in the United States ahead of his meeting with Trump? An undated video showing Munir shopping in a mall is circulating widely on social media, prompting netizens to question if he took time off from his official visit for leisure. Munir is currently on a five-day official visit to the United States.

In the video, the 11th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army is seen walking inside a mall. However, the authenticity of the video remains in question.

The Pakistan Tribune uploaded the video on Facebook, with the caption, “Pakistan’s Field Marshal General Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Spotted somewhere [Shopping Mall] in the US.” The clip was also widely circulated on X, where many criticised Munir for sightseeing.

As per Grok, the conversational AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s company xAI, “The claim that Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir was sightseeing in an American mall is likely false or exaggerated.”

‘Honoured to meet him’: Donald Trump

Trump said he was ‘honoured’ to meet Asim Munir and thanked him for not entering the war with India. Speaking after their meeting, he said, “The reason I had him here was I wanted to thank him for not going into the war and ending the war. Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago, and we are working on a trade deal with India. We are working on a trade deal with Pakistan…. I am so happy. Two smart people, two very smart people, decided not to keep going with the war. Those are two big nuclear powers. I was honoured to meet him today.”
