Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigns after viral video with colleague at Coldplay concert

Date:

Andy Byron has resigned as CEO of US-based tech company Astronomer following the circulation of a viral video showing him embracing a colleague at a Coldplay concert.

The company issued a statement on Saturday, July 19, stating that its leadership must demonstrate “exemplary conduct and accountability,” which had recently been compromised.

The incident took place on Wednesday, July 16, during a Coldplay concert in Boston, Massachusetts. Byron and Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief People Officer, appeared on the venue’s Jumbotron screen during a “kiss cam” segment, where they were seen sharing an intimate embrace.

After noticing they were being broadcast, both appeared to recoil and attempted to hide from the camera. Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin remarked on stage, “Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

The video quickly spread online by Thursday morning, leading to widespread speculation about the nature of their relationship. Reports noted that both Byron and Cabot are married, prompting global attention and scrutiny of the company, which is known for its work in the DataOps sector.

Following the incident, Astronomer’s Board of Directors placed both executives on administrative leave and initiated an internal investigation. The company reiterated its commitment to its core values and culture.

With Byron’s resignation confirmed, co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy will serve as interim CEO while the board searches for a permanent successor.
