‘Avoid travelling to border areas’: Indian Embassy in Cambodia

The Embassy of India in Cambodia on Saturday, July 26, issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals living in the country, advising them to avoid travelling to the Cambodia-Thailand border areas.This advisory comes amid ongoing clashes between the two Southeast Asian nations. The embassy also issued a helpline number and an email address for assistance.

In an official advisory message, the Embassy of India in Cambodia said, “In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas.”

It added that in the event of an emergency, Indian nationals can contact the Embassy of India in Phnom Penh at +855 92881676 or cons.phnompenh@mea.gov.in.

On Friday, the Indian Embassy in Thailand issued an advisory and urged Indian nationals to avoid travel to seven provinces in Thailand.

It urged tourists to check for updates from Thai official sources such as TAT media, the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s official online newsroom.

“Because of the situation near the Thailand-Cambodia border, all Indian travellers to Thailand are advised to check updates from Thai official sources, including TAT Newsroom. As per the Tourism Authority of Thailand, places mentioned in the following link are not recommended for travelling,” it added.

On Saturday, clashes between Cambodia and Thailand continued for the third day. According to Al Jazeera, Cambodian officials have confirmed another 12 deaths as a result of the ongoing border dispute with Thailand, bringing the total death toll on both sides to 32.

On Saturday, Maly Socheata, Cambodian Ministry of National Defence spokesperson, said that seven more civilians and five soldiers were confirmed dead. The spokesperson reported that 50 Cambodian citizens and more than 20 soldiers had been injured.

Thailand has reported 13 civilians, including children, as well as six soldiers killed over the past two days of fighting. In addition, 29 Thai soldiers and 30 civilians have also been injured in Cambodian attacks.
