Benjamin Netanyahu backs Trump for Nobel Peace Prize after Israel-Hamas peace deal

Date:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, October 9, reiterated his support for US President Donald Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, just hours after the announcement of a historic peace deal between Israel and Hamas.

In a post on X from his PMO handle, Netanyahu wrote, “Give @realDonaldTrump the Nobel Peace Prize — he deserves it!”

The post featured an AI-generated image showing Netanyahu presenting Trump with the Nobel medal, as Israeli flags waved in the background.

Earlier, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had signed off on the first phase of his administration’s peace plan, under which “all hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw troops to an agreed line”, calling it a step toward “a strong, durable, and everlasting peace.” He thanked Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for mediating the deal.

Notably, Netanyahu had previously nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in July during a visit to the White House, praising him for “forging peace in one region after another.”
