Budget 2025 | Additional 0.5% of GSDP borrowing allowed for electricity distribution reforms

As part of efforts to reform electricity distribution and improve intra-state transmission capacity, the Union Budget 2025, presented on Saturday (February 1), has enabled an additional borrowing of 0.5% of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).Also, the Budget announced support for Clean Tech manufacturing to improve domestic value addition and jobs to build an ecosystem for solar PV cells, EV batteries, motors and controllers, electrolysers, wind turbines, very high voltage transmission equipment and grid-scale batteries.Also Read: PMGKAY gets ₹2.03 lakh crore in Union Budget 2025

A Nuclear Energy Mission for research & development of Small Modular Reactors (SMR) with an outlay of ₹20,000 crore will be set up, with at least 5 indigenously developed SMRs to be operationalized by 2033.Govt has proposed to fully exempt duties on imports of cobalt powder and waste, scrap of lithium-ion batteries, Lead, Zinc and 12 more critical minerals to help secure their availability for manufacturing in India and promote more jobs.The government has proposed to add 35 additional capital goods for EV battery manufacturing, and 28 additional capital goods for mobile phone battery manufacturing to boost the domestic manufacture of lithium-ion batteries for mobile phones & EVs.
