Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget 2025 speech on Saturday, February 1, unveiled the National Spatial Mission, an initiative aimed at modernising land records and enhancing infrastructure development across the country. The mission will focus on creating foundational spatial infrastructure and data, which will be utilised to improve urban planning, land record management, and the design of key infrastructure projects.“We will start a national Geospatial Mission to develop foundational spatial infrastructure and data. Using PM-Gati Shakti, this mission will facilitate modernisation of land records, urban planning, and the design of infrastructure projects,” Sitharaman said.The launch of the National Spatial Mission is poised to play a critical role in fostering smarter cities, streamlining land record systems, and contributing to the broader goal of sustainable urban growth in India.
