While presenting the Union Budget 2025 in Parliament, Sitharaman said that at least five indigenously developed SMRs will be operational by 2033.

The FM added, “Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat aims to achieve the development of at least 100 gigawatts of nuclear energy by 2047, which is crucial for our energy transition efforts. To foster an active partnership with the private sector towards this goal, amendments to the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act will be pursued…”FM Sitharaman presented the Budget using a digital tablet encased in a traditional red ‘bahi-khata’ pouch, continuing the practice she introduced in 2019, moving away from the British-era Budget briefcase.First Published: Feb 1, 2025 11:57 AM IST
