The government has allocated ₹19,000 crore to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in its Budget 2025-26, an increase from the revised estimate of ₹14,500 crore announced in the Budget 2024-25, presented in July 2024.CompanyValueChange%ChangeThe fourth phase of the scheme, which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during the budget, was approved by the Union Cabinet in September 2024 for the period from FY 2024-25 to 2028-29.The fourth phase will connect 25,000 villages with the construction of 62,500 km of all-weather roads. The total outlay for this scheme will be ₹70,125 crore (Central share of ₹49,087.50 crore and state share of ₹21,037.50 crore).
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, launched in December 2000, is a scheme that ensures road connectivity to unconnected habitations as part of a poverty reduction strategy.The aim of the scheme is to provide all-weather connections to eligible unconnected habitations in rural areas with a population of 500 persons and above in plain areas, allowing easy movement of goods and vehicles, thus ensuring the overall development of the country.The fund-sharing pattern for the scheme between the Centre and state governments is 60:40, except for the eight North Eastern states and the Himalayan states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.As of July 23, 2024, 810,083 km of road had been sanctioned, with 765,530 km completed. A total of ₹3,24,177 crore has been spent on this scheme.
