Budget boost for plantation sector: Tea, Coffee, Rubber, Spices Boards get higher allocations

Date:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a higher allocation of ₹1,565 crore to the Plantation Commodity Boards in the Union Budget 2025-26. This is higher than the revised allocation of ₹1,228 crore for FY25.

The Tea Board, which plays a major role in the development of the tea industry, has received the maximum allocation of ₹771.55 crore. This is an increase of 54 per cent over the revised budgetary allocation of ₹500 crore for FY 2024-25.

As per the budget documents, the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana (PMCSPY) has been finalized and approved for implementation in FY25 and 2025-26. The scheme aims to strengthen education and health services for tea workers by making need-based interventions in tea garden areas.

This is in addition to the earlier announcement in the Budget Speech for the year 2021-22, where it was proposed that ₹1,000 crore will be provided for the welfare of Tea workers, especially women and their children, in Assam and West Bengal, and a special scheme will be devised for the same.

Also, the allocation to the Coffee Board increased by 12 per cent to ₹280 crore for FY26, up from the previous year’s revised allocation of ₹250 crore.

The Rubber Board’s budgetary allocation has been fixed at ₹360.31 crore, an increase of 3.4 per cent over the previous year’s revised allocation of ₹348.38 crore.

The Spices Board’s Budgetary allocation for 2025-26 is ₹153.81 crore, up 18 per cent from the previous year’s revised allocation of ₹130 crore.
