Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, on July 21, celebrated the production of its 13-millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) at its Xiaomo Production Base in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone.The milestone vehicle was the YANGWANG U7 sedan, a model from BYD’s premium sub-brand, highlighting the company’s growing presence in the high-end automotive sector.
BYD has seen rapid growth in NEV production. The company produced its one-millionth NEV in May 2021, reached 3 million units by December 2022, and hit 5 million in September 2023.
Just two months later, in November 2023, production reached 6 million. By March 2024, BYD had manufactured 7 million NEVs at its Jinan facility, and by November 2024, the total reached 10 million units.In the first half of 2025, BYD’s sales grew significantly. Domestic sales in China exceeded 2.113 million units, a 31.5% increase year-on-year, while overseas sales surged 128.5% to 472,000 units.

In India, BYD recently launched the Sealion 7, starting at Rs 48.90 lakh. Its other offerings include the Seal sedan (Rs 41 lakh), the Atto 3 compact SUV (Rs 24.99 lakh), and the eMax 7 MPV (Rs 26.90 lakh), with all prices being ex-showroom for base variants.
