Patel credited the successful operation to cooperation among US law enforcement agencies, the Department of Justice, and authorities in India.
According to a Fox News report, Singh was taken into custody in India by the FBI, working in coordination with Indian authorities and INTERPOL. She has since been extradited to the US and will be handed over to Texas law enforcement. The case dates back to March 2023, when Texas authorities conducted a welfare check on Singh’s son, Noel, who hadn’t been seen since October 2022. At the time, Singh allegedly misled investigators, claiming the child was in Mexico with his biological father.
Just two days later, Singh fled the country on a flight to India with her husband — Noel’s stepfather of Indian origin — and six other children. Noel was not among them and was never seen boarding the flight.
Officials said Noel suffered from multiple health and developmental conditions, including a severe developmental disorder, social disorder, bone density issues, and chronic lung disease.
Singh was formally charged in October 2023 by a Texas district court. She now faces federal charges of Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution and Capital Murder of a Person Under 10 Years of Age, according to Patel.
