Coal Ministry reports 5.33% growth in December coal production; dispatches rise 6.36%

The Ministry of Coal on Wednesday (January 1) announced a 5.33% year-on-year increase in coal production for December 2024, reaching 97.94 million tonnes (MT) compared to 92.98 MT in December 2023.CompanyValueChange%ChangeCaptive and other mines contributed significantly with 18.95 MT, showing a robust 29.61% growth from 14.62 MT during the same period last year.Cumulative coal production for FY 2024-25 up to December 2024 rose by 6.11%, reaching 726.29 MT (provisional), compared to 684.45 MT in the corresponding period of FY 2023-24.

Dispatches from captive and other mines also surged by 31.83% to 18.13 MT.Cumulative dispatches for FY 2024-25 stood at 750.75 million tonne (provisional), a 5.58% growth from 711.07 million tonne in FY 2023-24.”The ministry continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing production, ensuring seamless dispatch, and catering to the growing energy demands of the nation.
