The Roman Catholic cardinals are set to meet in a conclave on May 7, to elect the next leader of the global Church. The announcement comes days after Pope Francis died on April 21 at the 88. According to the official statement, the Cardinals present in Rome made the decision on Monday at their fifth General Congregation. The conclave will take place in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, which remain closed to visitors during those days.
The last two conclaves, held in 2005 and 2013, lasted just two days.
