Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batter Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday.Brevis joined MI in 2022, but went unsold in the recent mega auction. He represents the MI franchise in the SA20 and Major League Cricket (MLC) for the MI Cape Town and MI New York teams respectively.
Brevis has played 20 first-class games for Titans, in addition to 25 List A matches and 81 T20 clashes. In the shortest format, he has aggregated 1787 runs, on the back of an average of 26.27 and a strike rate touching 145. He has slammed seven half-centuries and ton in T20s too.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa’s Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025,” an official release from the league read.It added, “Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I Debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far. Brevis was previously part of Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore.”Brevis has scored 230 runs in 10 IPL encounters, an an average of 23 to go with a strike rate of 133.72.With 17 fours 16 maximums, Brevis is known to expedite the scoring rate in the middle overs. He is exceptional against spinners, unleashing powerful sweep shots that beat the boundary line and fetches quick runs for the team.Brevis’ base price at the auction was a mere ₹75 lakh. However, since Gurjapneet was signed for ₹2.2 crore, CSK have roped in the Protea player for the same price.
