Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, February 1, allocated ₹5.25 lakh crore for the Ministry of Defence for 2025-26, lower than last year’s outlay of ₹6.21 lakh crore and ₹5.94 lakh crore from the year before. The capital outlay has been pegged at ₹1.63 lakh crore, again lower compared to last year’s ₹1.72 lakh crore.At the start of 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had declared that 2025 will be a year of reforms. In the coming months we are likely to see reforms aimed at integrated theatre commands, new domains such as cyber and AI, simpler and time-bound acquisitions, easier tech transfer and export facilitation.Defence Budgets since 2020
