Delhi Blast: US Embassy issues an alert for American citizens

The US Embassy in New Delhi has issued a security advisory following the blast near the Red Fort on November 10. Eight people have been confirmed dead so far due to the blast. Click here for the latest updates.The Embassy’s notice said the following:

Avoid the areas surrounding the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk in Delhi.

Avoid crowds.
Monitor local media for updates.Be aware of your surroundings.

Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.

A powerful explosion near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening left at least 8 people dead and several vehicles gutted, according to the Delhi Police, which confirmed the details to CNBC-TV18.

The blast, believed to have originated from a parked car around 6.52 pm today evening, triggered a massive fire that spread rapidly across the area. At least seven fire tenders were deployed by the Delhi Fire Service to control the blaze.

Authorities have cordoned off the site, and forensic teams are investigating the cause, with initial reports pointing to a possible CNG cylinder blast. A high alert has been issued across Delhi.
