The Dow futures are currently down 200 points, while those on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are down 30 and 100 points respectively. US President Donald Trump, over the weekend, announced that the European Union and Mexico, will both be subject to 30% tariffs in case better terms of a trade deal are not negotiated before August 1. In response, the European Union has put on hold a set of countermeasures for continuing negotiations, while Mexico has expressed confidence that they will not be subject to these tariffs as negotiations are already ongoing with the Trump administration. The USMCA-compliant goods will not be subject to additional tariffs. Benchmark indices on Wall Street fell on Friday, thereby registering a weekly loss after Trump sent more tariff letters to partner countries and clarity on others, including the European Union was lacking.
