Jaishankar’s meeting comes amid continuous remarks made by United States President Donald Trump on India and Russia’s partnership and oil trade, reasoning that India’s oil imports from Russia is fuelling the war in Ukraine. Trump has posed a total of 50% tariffs on imports from India.
Jaishankar to meet Russian counterpartJaishankar will hold a meeting with Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov. They are expected to discuss the ongoing efforts on a ceasefire and a peace deal to stop the Russia-Ukraine war.

Jaishankar will also review the bilateral agenda and share perspective on regional and global issues with the Russian foreign minister, as per MEA.
“The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding and time-tested India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic partnership,” MEA said, as per PTI.
