Billionaire Elon Musk lashed out at Donald Trump, hours after the US President called him a ‘train wreck’ over the launch of his new political outfit, the America Party. The Tesla CEO targeted Trump through a series of provocative posts, including memes alluding to the long-promised, unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files. One of the memes shared by Musk showed a satirical timeline mocking the shifting narrative on the long-promised Epstein list, ending with the phrase “There is no Epstein list.” He put an angry emoji in the caption.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 7, 2025The clash comes days after Musk formally announced the America Party, a group aimed at restoring ‘freedom’ in the face of a broken two-party system. The announcement followed a user poll on X in which 65% voted in favour of the idea.Trump derided the announcement, saying America has “always been a two-party system” and suggesting that Musk’s move is bound to fail.“Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous,” Trump told reporters on Sunday. In a follow-up Truth Social post, he said he was “saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails’” over the past five weeks and labelled the billionaire a ‘train wreck’.Elon Musk previously led Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) but exited in May. The split was fuelled by growing disagreements over Trump’s recently passed tax-cut and spending ‘big beautiful bill’, which Musk slammed as “insane” and accused of “damaging industries of the future.”Musk contends his opposition comes from concerns over ballooning national debt, not electric vehicle policy. Trump, however, says the new legislation “eliminates EV subsidies, unfortunately for Elon.”The split was nearly unthinkable only months ago. Trump once gave Musk a ceremonial golden key to the White House during a farewell in the Oval Office, shortly before they began attacking each other online. Asked Sunday if he now wanted that key back, Trump offered no comment.Tesla shares dropped 7% in pre-market trading on July 7, following CEO Elon Musk’s announcement of the America Party.(Edited by : Sudarsanan Mani)First Published: Jul 7, 2025 4:21 PM IST
