Five IT majors together have lower weight than HDFC Bank in Nifty50

The combined influence of India’s top IT companies in the Nifty50 has slipped below that of HDFC Bank as sector shares continue to slide. While HDFC Bank’s weight now stands at 13.02%, the five IT majors together account for just 9.9%, reflecting significant underperformance amid earnings pressures and global headwinds. Meanwhile, financial and energy stocks have boosted the index, offsetting the drag from IT.

The extended decline in shares of India’s top IT companies has sharply reduced their influence in the benchmark Nifty50 index. The five sector heavyweights — Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, and Wipro — have collectively fallen around 25% so far this year, dragging their combined weight in the Nifty50 down to 9.9%.
