Ford introduces the Bronco New Energy, an electric SUV with a 650km range, exclusively for China. Built with Jiangling Motors, it offers EV and EREV options, debuting in Q4 2025.

Electric Bronco Unveiled: Ford has introduced the Ford Bronco New Energy, an electric SUV designed exclusively for China. This vehicle, a collaboration with Jiangling Motors, expands the Bronco lineup with pure electric and EREV powertrain options. It draws design inspiration from the petrol-powered Bronco and Bronco Sport. The SUV will debut in China in Q4 2025, with no confirmed plans for other markets yet.

Dimensions and Design: The Ford Bronco New Energy measures 5,025mm long, 1,960mm wide, and 1,815mm tall, with a 2,950mm wheelbase. It has a curb weight of 2,630kg for the EV and 2,510kg for the EREV. The design mirrors the Bronco Sport, featuring a spare tire on the tailgate and a squared-off silhouette. A lidar unit above the windshield suggests advanced driver-assistance systems.

Electric Powertrain Specs: The all-electric Bronco New Energy features a dual-motor AWD system. It has a 177hp front motor and a 275hp rear motor, delivering a combined 311hp. Powered by a 105.4kWh BYD lithium-iron-phosphate battery, it offers a 650km CLTC range. The SUV’s top speed is 170kph, and it includes high-voltage fast-charging technology for efficient recharging.

EREV Powertrain Details: The EREV variant of the Bronco New Energy uses a 177hp front motor and a 245hp rear motor. A 1.5-litre 150hp petrol engine acts as a generator, not driving the wheels. Equipped with a 43.7kWh battery, it provides a 220km electric range and a total range of 1,220km with the engine’s support.

Advanced Technology Features: The Bronco New Energy includes a lidar unit and over 30 high-precision sensors and cameras for enhanced ADAS. It’s smart cockpit offers modes like naps, pets, and camping. Ford China emphasises a connected experience with integrated software for route planning, positioning the SUV as a versatile lifestyle vehicle for Chinese consumers.

China-Exclusive Launch: Manufactured by Jiangling Motors in Jiangxi, the Bronco New Energy targets China’s growing EV market. Ford has not confirmed plans to sell it elsewhere, though markets like Australia and New Zealand could be considered later. The SUV’s launch in Q4 2025 aligns with China’s demand for electrified off-road vehicles.
