Govt seeks Parliament nod to spend ₹51,463 crore extra in current fiscal

The government on Monday (March 10) has requested parliamentary approval to allocate an additional ₹51,463 crore on a net basis for the ongoing financial year ending March 31, 2025.Of this amount, ₹5,320 crore is earmarked for upgrading telecom networks in underserved areas and settling dues for employees of state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL).

Additionally, ₹7,000  crore has been proposed for the new Unified Pension Scheme for union government employees, set to launch on April 1, 2025.While the government’s total additional spending for FY25 stands at ₹6.79 trillion (₹7784 crore), a significant portion will be covered through unutilised allocations from various government departments.First Published: Mar 10, 2025 9:26 PM IST
