Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has urged the Indian Premier League (IPL) organisers to prepare better pitches that promote shot-making as his side defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.Receiving the Player of the Match award for his 26-run knock off 11 deliveries, Dhoni said that no team wants to play the game timidly.
He was referring to the surface at the CSK home ground Chepauk, which has been a bastion for them over the years. However, the Chennai-based team has faced defeats thrice on the ground already in the current campaign.
CSK finally snapped their five-match losing streak by beating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets and Dhoni played a pivotal role with a 11-ball 26-run cameo to finish off the game for the visitors.”One of the reasons could be that the Chennai wicket is slightly on the slower side. When we have played away from home, the batting unit has done slightly better. Maybe we need to play on wickets that are slightly better so that it’ll give the batters confidence to play their shots. You don’t want to play timid cricket,” Dhoni said after the match.”As a bowling unit we’ve done well. As a batting unit, we can do better.” Dhoni, who was the player of the match, said the win will give a whole lot of confidence to the side.CSK rung in a few critical changes to their playing XI that played a part in this victory, bringing in Shaikh Rasheed and Jamie Overton for Ravichandran Ashwin and Devon Conway respectively.While Rasheed impressed with a 27-run knock, Overton’s presence provided firepower in the lower middle order, which allowed CSK to promote Ravindra Jadeja to No. 4, though that move did not work out well eventually.
