‘I wish him well’: Donald Trump on rift with Elon Musk

Date:

US President Donald Trump on Monday dismissed the speculation that he intended to part ways with his Tesla model and discontinue Starlink. Speaking at a White House press briefing, Trump said that he had no plans to discontinue Starlink at the White House but might move his Tesla off-site.This comes after he announced that his association with Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of both companies, was over.
Referring to the satellite internet company that provides high-speed broadband access, Trump said, “I may move the Tesla around a little bit, but I don’t think we’ll be doing that with Starlink. It’s a good service.”
The President mentioned in March that he had purchased a red Tesla Model S from Musk, his then-close ally. When asked where it could be relocated, Trump cryptically said, “I have a lot of locations.”According to a report in Reuters, a White House insider suggested last week that the president might get rid of it following the public feud. The automobile was reportedly spotted parked at the White House over the weekend, amid reports of a rift between the two.

“We had a great relationship and I wish him well—very well, actually,” Trump told reporters on Monday.

Musk responded with a heart emoji to a clip of Trump’s remarks, which was posted by conservative influencer ALX on X.

When asked on Monday if he would speak with Musk, Trump responded, “If I were him, I would want to speak to me. Umm I haven’t really thought about it actually. I would imagine he wants to speak to me. Maybe he’s already called. You’d have to ask him. Ask him if he’s already called. But I’d have no problems with it.”

Last week, Musk slammed Trump’s tax and spending bill as a ‘disgusting abomination.’ Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Trump retorted, saying he was ‘disappointed’ in Musk’s behaviour.

Tesla CEO responded with a flurry of tweets on X, claiming that Trump would have lost the election without him, further claiming his name was in Jeffrey Epstein’s files.

The world’s richest man has also deleted some social media posts critical of Trump since the dispute started last Thursday. In his interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump said, “I think it’s a very bad thing because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president.”

According to sources close to Musk, his fury has subsided, and he may seek to repair his relationship with Trump, Reuters reported.
