Apple’s latest addition to the iPhone 16 lineup, the iPhone 16E, has officially gone on sale in India on Friday (February 28, 2025), with Bob Borchers, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, calling it a major opportunity for customers in the country.“iPhone 16E extends the iPhone 16 family. There’s even more choice, which is great, because our customers can now choose the iPhone that’s perfect for them. And with iPhone 16E, you get the latest generation of iPhone 16 experience at an incredible value. We think it’s going to be great for folks who maybe have an older iPhone and are ready to have a significant upgrade, or people coming to the platform for the first time,” Borchers said in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18.The iPhone 16E, priced at ₹59,900, is the most affordable model in the iPhone 16 series. It offers a budget-friendly entry point for Indian consumers while still delivering the latest Apple technology.
India’s Growing Role in Apple’s StrategyBorchers emphasised the increasing importance of India in Apple’s global strategy, citing the country’s rapidly expanding mobile market and the demand for high-quality smartphone experiences.“India is incredibly dynamic, and it’s an important market to us,” he said. “It’s a place where we know mobile communications is critical, and people want to be able to have an amazing experience with the products that they’re carrying with them every single day.”Apple is also doubling down on its commitment to localisation in India. Borchers announced that “Apple Intelligence” will be launching in the country in April, featuring a localised version of English tailored for Indian users. Additionally, Apple will introduce support for 10 new languages in India, reaching 90% of the population.
