Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei claims symbolic victory, says US got a ‘severe slap’

Date:

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a defiant message in his first public address since the ceasefire that ended the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, claiming a symbolic victory over both Israel and the United States.Khamenei asserted that Iran had dealt a “severe slap” to the US, which he accused of intervening only to rescue its ally Israel from defeat.
Khamenei praised Iran’s missile strike on the Al-Udeid US Air Base in Qatar, calling it a successful operation and a demonstration of Iran’s reach and military capability. He warned that any future US aggression would be met with similar or stronger retaliation, stating, “The Islamic Republic has access to key US centers in the region and can take action whenever it deems necessary. Such actions can be repeated.”

The leader dismissed US claims of strategic success, particularly those made by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who asserted that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been crippled.

Khamenei countered that while US B-2 bombers targeted Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility with

bunker-buster bombs, the attacks failed to significantly impact Iran’s nuclear knowhow. He described the strikes as violations of international law and called for accountability.Khamenei also criticised Trump’s rhetoric, accusing him of exaggerating the conflict’s outcomes for political gain. “Anyone who has heard these words understands that there is another truth behind them,” he said, without naming Trump directly.

Referring to Israel, Khamenei claimed that the Zionist regime was “crushed under the blows of the Islamic Republic,” despite its elimination of several high-ranking Iranian officials, including IRGC Commander Hossein Salami and top nuclear scientists. Iran reported over 620 casualties from Israeli missile strikes during the conflict.

He congratulated the Iranian people on what he described as a victory over both the “fallacious Zionist regime” and the US. He emphasised Iran’s resilience and refusal to surrender, reinforcing the country’s stance on continuing its nuclear research for peaceful purposes.

As tensions remain high, the international community watches closely for further developments, especially amid concerns over regional stability and the future of Iran’s nuclear program.
