Iraq closes airspace, suspends flights; Delhi Airport issues advisory, several Air India flights disrupted

Iraq has closed its airspace following Israel’s attacks on Iran and evolving conflict in the region, state media said on Friday (June 13). Observing these conditions, Delhi Airport has issued travel advisory for passengers.Iraq has suspended the flights at all the airports, reported AFP.
Some flight schedules have been affected due to the evolving airspace conditions over the West Asian countries due to Israel’s attacks over Iran, Delhi Airport said in a passenger advisory on June 13.
“Delhi Airport operations are running smoothly. However, due to evolving airspace conditions over Iran, Iraq and neighbouring region, some flight schedules have been impacted,” it said in a statement.Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights, it further said.

“We strongly urge all passengers to rely on official sources for accurate and up-to-date information,” Delhi Airport said.

Israel launched airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear programme and military targets, codenaming it as Operation Rising Lion. The major escalation in the standoff between the two countries can spark a new war in West Asia.
Air India flights diverted Air India also reported that flight disruptions stating that several flights have been diverted due to the ongoing situation in the West Asian region.

“Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace and in view of the safety of our passengers, Air India flights are either being diverted or returning to their origin,” it said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

The airline further stated that it regrets the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to this unforeseen disruption and are making every effort to minimise it, including providing accommodation for passengers.”Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling is also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations,” Air India said.

Lufthansa cancels Tehran flights

The Lufthansa airline also suspended its flight operations to and from Tehran until further notice due to the current situation, it said in a statement.

“Iranian, Iraqi And Israeli Airspace will also not be used for overflights for the time being,” Lufthansa added.
