Saquib Nachan, an accused with alleged links to the terror group ISIS, has died at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, CNN-News18 reported citing sources in the hospital administration.Nachan had been in custody at Tihar Jail for several months following his arrest in December 2023. He was admitted to the hospital a few days ago after showing symptoms of a brain haemorrhage, according to CNN-News18.
Authorities had accused Nachan of being actively involved in recruiting Muslim youth into ISIS and working to establish Islamic rule in India.
He was also accused of declaring a village in Maharashtra’s Thane district as ‘Al Sham’, referring to it as an independent Islamic-ruled territory.A former office bearer of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), Nachan had earlier been convicted in multiple terror cases.He was one of the prime accused in the 2002–2003 Mumbai bomb blasts, including those at Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund railway stations.After completing his sentence in 2017, officials allege that Nachan re-engaged in terror-related activities, leading to his re-arrest in 2023.No official statement has yet been released by Delhi Police or Safdarjung Hospital on the exact cause of death.
