Israel Iran War: Iranian military chief Ali Shadmani killed, says IDF

Iran’s war-time military chief Ali Shadmani has been killed in Israel’s airstrikes, Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday (June 17).”For the second time in 5 days— the IDF has eliminated Iran’s War-Time Chief of Staff, the regime’s top military commander,” IDF said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Ali Shadmani, Iran’s senior-most military official and Khamenei’s closest military advisor, was killed in an IAF strike in central Tehran, following precise intelligence,” IDF stated.

Major General Ali Shadmanii was recently appointed as the commander of the Khatam Al-Anbiya Headquarters and Iran’s War-Time Chief of Staff by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameni, on June

Shadmani was considered as a close aide to Khamenei and managed combat operations and Iran’s attack plans, as per reports.

He had replaced General Gholam Ali Rashid, who was killed in Israeli strikes earlier.

The IDF, had earlier stated on June 17 morning that it had completed several extensive strikes on military targets in western Iran.

These included surface-to-surface missile storage sites, UAV storage sites and Iran’s launch infrastructure as well comprising surface-to-air missile launchers.

Israel launched Operation Rising Lion in the early hours of June 13 in which it targeted Iran’s nuclear programme sites.
