Jaffar Express hijacked in March 2025
The derailment comes just months after a significant security incident involving the same train. In March this year, the Jaffar Express was hijacked by members of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) near a mountainous region in Quetta.
Hundreds of passengers were taken hostage and over two dozen Pakistani security personnel were killed in the attack.
The Jaffar Express, which operates between Quetta and Peshawar, traverses areas that have seen a rise in insurgent activities, particularly in Balochistan and parts of Sindh, as per News18.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the latest incident, the involvement of militant outfits operating in the region has not been ruled out. Security forces continue to monitor the situation and further updates are awaited.
