Hatchback Makes Debut: Kia unveiled the K4 hatchback at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, marking its first complete reveal after a teaser last year. This new body style, a rival to the Volkswagen Golf, joins the K4 sedan sold in some markets. It targets North America, the Middle East, and Asia for a late 2025 launch.

Compact Size Noted: The K4 hatchback measures 4,431mm in length, 279mm shorter than the 4,710mm K4 sedan. This compact size enhances manoeuvrability while maintaining a similar front design. The reduced length distinguishes its profile, making it ideal for urban driving. Kia ensures the hatchback retains the sedan’s core styling cues up to the B-pillar.

Two Engine Choices: Buyers can choose between two engines: a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 147hp and 179Nm, paired with Kia’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), or a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 190hp and 264Nm, matched with an 8-speed automatic.

Sporty Suspension Added: The GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo variants feature a sports-tuned suspension, designed to improve handling and responsiveness. Kia highlights this upgrade for a more engaging drive. Three trims—EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo—cater to different preferences, with the GT-Line models offering a sportier feel.

Tech-Packed Interior: The K4 hatchback’s interior mirrors the sedan’s, featuring two 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation, plus a 5-inch HVAC screen. Standard features include wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and 29 ADAS features. A 360-degree camera, Harman Kardon audio, heated/ventilated seats, and OTA updates enhance comfort and safety.

Distinct Exterior Styling: The hatchback shares the sedan’s front, with vertical LED headlights, T-shaped daytime running lamps, and a slim Tiger Nose grille. Its rear spoiler and shorter profile create a modern look. Alloy wheels (16-18 inches) and tail-lights match the sedan.

Generous Cargo Space: The K4 hatchback offers 628 litres of boot space, 52% more than the sedan’s 413 litres. Folding the rear seats expands it to 1,679 litres, equivalent to 59 cubic feet. This surpasses the sedan’s 15-cubic-foot trunk but is slightly less than the Honda Civic hatchback’s 24.8 cubic feet, boosting practicality.

Sales Start Soon: Kia plans to launch the K4 hatchback in late 2025 across key markets. Pricing is expected to start at around $25,000, with loaded GT-Line Turbo models exceeding $30,000. The hatchback’s versatility and features position it as a strong competitor to the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla hatchbacks in the compact segment.
