Kotak Mahindra Bank’s Net Interest Margin decline in Q1 was no ordinary one, as it marks the lowest income from credit products for the private lender in three and half years.

Kotak Mahindra Bank’s net interest margin (NIMs) contracted by 37 basis points year-on-year to 4.65% in Q1FY26, pressured by the benchmark lending rate cut and a reduced share of unsecured loans. On a sequential basis, NIM declined by 32 basis points, marking the lowest margin level in the last 14 quarters—though still higher than that of most large private sector peers.
