L&T’s minerals and metals vertical bags ‘significant’ order to set up freight handling facilities in the GCC region

Larsen and Toubro on Thursday, January 30, said its minerals and metals vertical has won a ‘significant’ order to set up freight handling facilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

L&T classifies orders in the ₹1,000 crore to ₹2,500 crore range as ‘significant’.

This is a repeat order from a leading railway company in the GCC, which has capacity expansion plans in multiple phases, the company said.

The scope of work will involve engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and commissioning of freight handling facilities with advanced automation and control at two locations, including an add-on package.

“The repeat order from GCC’s largest railway company highlights the company’s minerals and metals vertical’s proven capabilities in delivering EPC projects matching international standards in quality, safety and on-time completion,” DK Sen, the executive committee member and advisor to the CMD, L&T, said.

On Tuesday, January 28, L&T won another ‘significant’ order to build Uzbekistan’s first AI-enabled and sustainable 10 Megawatt data centre in Tashkent.

The company said the project will set new standards for data centre infrastructure in the region, combining cutting-edge technology with a strong commitment to sustainability.

L&T will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the centre, which will be equipped with advanced AI capabilities to power next-generation AI applications, minimise environmental impact and maximise energy efficiency. The data centre will also be equipped with security measures to protect sensitive data.

On Monday, January 27, L&T’s renewables business vertical was selected by Masdar, one of the preferred EPC contractors for the the north site of the world’s first 24/7 solar PV and battery storage gigascale project to be built in Abu Dhabi.

The project will feature a 5.2GW (DC) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant and both coupled with a 19 gigawatt-hour (GWh) BESS, making it the largest solar and BESS project in the world, the company said.

L&T is scheduled to report its third quarter earnings on Thursday, January 30.

L&T shares were trading 1.69% higher at ₹3,507.85 apiece at 10.19 am on Thursday, January 30.
