Israeli Minister Abraham ‘Avi’ Dichter on Tuesday (April 8) hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his swift show of solidarity after the October 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas, calling his gesture “true friendship” that came “on time”.Speaking at CNN-News18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that Modi was among the first world leaders to reach out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“On October 7, 2023, when the horrible attacks from Gaza occurred and Israelis were tortured, killed, raped, kidnapped, one of the first world leaders who called the PM of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu was the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi,” he said. “He offered any help that Israel needed. That’s true friendship…when it comes on time,” Dichter added.
On the Israel-India partnership, Dichter offered insights into their cooperation on agriculture, saying Israel’s unique climate zones make it a “laboratory” for agricultural innovation.“Israel is a tiny country but we have a large variety of climate areas… It makes Israel a laboratory for agriculture which we offer to India. If you want to make mistakes, make new mistakes. That was the subject of discussion today with Indian agriculture minister [Shivraj Singh] Chouhan,” he said.
