US President Donald Trump on Monday made good on a promise to slap 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, stepping up a long-promised trade war despite warnings from Europe and China. The Republican president had unveiled the policy on Sunday aboard Air Force One while flying to the Super Bowl in Louisiana.

Before he signed executive orders imposing the measures, global stock markets rose as traders with “tariff fatigue” appeared to shrug off Trump’s plans.”Today I’m simplifying our tariffs on steel and aluminum,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “It’s 25% without exceptions or exemptions.”He also signalled that he would look at imposing additional tariffs on automobiles, pharmaceuticals and computer chips.

YouTube Turns 20: From a Dinner Table Idea to a Global Phenomenon- How It All Started

Can you imagine a world without YouTube? A time when we had no clue about the names of viral stars, nor did we have endless hours of how-to videos, or couldn’t watch the latest music videos at the click of a button? It’s hard to picture, isn’t it? Now try picturing this: YouTube, now a powerhouse that reaches billions globally, all started with a dinner party conversation!

Hard to believe, right?

This was the year 2025. And what began as an idea to help people post videos of themselves talking about their ideal partners was eventually transformed into the world’s biggest video-sharing platform. The trio behind it—PayPal colleagues Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim—did not have the world’s largest digital video service in mind when they launched YouTube. In fact, they were just looking to create a space for people to connect and share experiences. Who would’ve thought that a dating idea would lead to a video revolution? But that’s exactly what happened.

Read hereThe DeepSeek effect: What does it mean for the big players in Silicon Valley moving forward

DeepSeek hit the US AI community and stock market with all the subtlety of a heat-seeking intercontinental ballistic missile earlier this month. In all the frenetic freaking out of this disruptive model, here is my reading on how the Big Players would be affected.

We have to start with Nvidia, don’t we? After all, it lost $600 billion of value in a single day, a NASDAQ record, it seems. However, I believe this was a colossal knee-jerk reaction, as we can see in the recovery then. I posted on this the day before the drop that eventually Nvidia will be a net gainer. Models like DeepSeek have democratised AI, so it will mean a thousand models will bloom, as tens of thousands of smaller players with $10 million or so to spare will hanker for GPUs.
