In order to escape and get her passport back, Priya decided to inject the man with sedatives but the man died of an overdose.
She was convicted in 2018. Her re-appeals in 2020 and 2023 were rejected and in 2024 the Yemeni President confirmed her execution for July 16, 2025, which has been postponed.
The execution was postponed after India’s Muslim leader approached a renowned sheikh in Yemen.
However, the deceased man’s family has reportedly denied to pardon Nimisha and denied to accept any kind of blood money, stating that only retribution as per Shariat Law will be accepted by the family.
