‘No client list, Trump a gentleman in all respects’: 10 takeaways from Ghislaine Maxwell-DoJ interview

Date:

The US Department of Justice on Friday, August 22, released the long-awaited transcripts of the interview with convicted Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Conducted last month by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, the release of transcripts followed public backlash over the administration’s earlier refusal to disclose key records in the Epstein case.Based on the transcripts and audio of the July 2025 interview released by the Department of Justice, here are the top 10 takeaways:

No ‘Client List’ Exists: According to a released transcript of her interview, Maxwell repeatedly and unequivocally denied the existence of a ‘client list’ of high-profile associates involved in Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes, contradicting long-running theories. The DOJ and FBI have previously concluded that Epstein did not have such a list. A DoJ and FBI memo at the beginning of July stated that investigators discovered no ‘incriminating list’ of clients and ‘no credible evidence’ that Epstein blackmailed famous individuals.

Epstein’s Death Was Not Suicide: Maxwell asserted her belief that Jeffrey Epstein did not commit suicide in his New York jail cell in 2019. “I do not believe he died by suicide, no,” she said, adding that she had no reason to suspect he was killed in an attempt to quiet him.Positive View of Donald Trump: Maxwell was highly complimentary of President Donald Trump, whom she has known for decades. She called him a ‘gentleman in all respects’ and stated that she never saw him in an inappropriate setting. “I actually never saw the President in any type of massage setting. I never witnessed the President in any inappropriate setting in any way. The President was never inappropriate with anybody. In the times that I was with him, he was a gentleman in all respects,” she said.

Bill Clinton’s Involvement: During the July interview, she claimed that former President Bill Clinton was a friend of hers, not Epstein’s, and that he never visited Epstein’s island. She also mentioned former US President Bill Clinton travelled on Epstein’s plane about 26 times, but doesn’t think Clinton had a massage. “He never [did]. Absolutely never went. And I can be sure of that because there’s no way he would’ve gone – I don’t believe there’s any way that he would’ve gone to the island had I not been there,” she added. She also denied seeing him receiving massages, saying, “I don’t believe he did.”Maxwell Claims Prince Andrew Allegation Not True: During the interviews, Blanche questioned Maxwell about Prince Andrew’s suspected relationship with a lady whose identity was redacted by the Department of Justice. She claims that the allegations against the Duke of York are ‘mind-blowingly not conceivable,’ owing in part to the size of her home, where the alleged incidents occurred. She is asked about a ‘famous photo’ of Andrew and an unidentified woman, with Maxwell in the background. She informs Blanche that the photograph is fake.

Pair Together In ‘Social Settings’: Maxwell stated that Trump and Epstein seemed friendly, and added that she only recalled seeing the duo together in ‘social settings’ rather than ‘private settings.’

Doesn’t Recall Trump Sending Epstein 50th Birthday Note: In July, the Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump wrote a ‘bawdy’ letter to Jeffrey Epstein on his birthday in 2003. According to Ghislaine Maxwell’s interview transcript from July, she does not remember whether Trump submitted a letter for Epstein’s 50th birthday album. Blanche asks her if she recalls “President Trump submitting a letter, card, or note”. Maxwell responds, “I don’t,” adding that she recalls seeing some sections of the book but “nothing from President Trump.”

Epstein’s Private Caribbean Island: Maxwell described Epstein’s private Caribbean island as ‘rustic’ and said Epstein was enamoured with it. Epstein had a tens of millions of dollars budget for the island. He often travelled with an ‘entourage’ including a ‘masseuse or yoga person’, but sometimes required a local masseuse, and so she would visit St Thomas or St John to locate one. Locals were hesitant to visit the island due to the difficult boat ride that took several hours. “It’s not like arriving with your massage table and stuff,” she added.

Never Saw Epstein Have Sex on Private Plane: Ghislaine Maxwell told the US Justice Department that she never saw Jeffrey Epstein have sex on his private plane. “Never on the plane,” she said, adding that the plane had a section with a bedroom and office that could be closed off. Maxwell said she must have seen Epstein getting massages due to his obsession with having his feet rubbed.

About Several Other Well-Known Figures: She was asked about several other prominent individuals, including Bill Gates, Elon Musk, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., actor Kevin Spacey, model Naomi Campbell, and Prince Andrew, whom she denied introducing to Epstein.
