US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, stating that an agreement to end the war might require “some swapping of territories.” The Kremlin confirmed it in an online statement.
India extended its support and endorsed the Trump-Putin meeting that it believes could open “prospects for peace” and bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
“PM Modi has said on several occasions that this is not an era of war. India endorses the upcoming summit meeting and stands ready to support these efforts,” sources told CNBC-TV18.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made clear on Saturday (August 9) morning that Ukraine will not give up its land to Russia but is open to discussing lasting peace in Ukraine in the US President.
Zelenskyy, who was excluded from the upcoming meeting, remarked that decisions made “without Ukraine are at the same time decisions against peace.”
“They will not achieve anything. These are stillborn decisions. They are unworkable decisions. And we all need real and genuine peace. Peace that people will respect,” he said in a video posted on social media platform X.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials are meeting British foreign minister David Lammy, US Vice President JD Vance, and European allies on Saturday (August 9) to discuss Trump’s push for peace.
