As of March 2025, insurance companies collectively hold a 19.22% stake in NSE, amounting to 47.57 crore shares. At an estimated share price of Rs 2,369, this stake is valued at approximately Rs 1.12 lakh crore, underscoring the substantial institutional confidence in the exchange.

Among the major state-backed stakeholders are Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) with a 10.7% stake, State Bank of India (SBI) at 3.23%, SBI Capital Markets at 4.33%, and Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL) holding 4.40%. This strong presence of large public sector institutions highlights the strategic importance and credibility of NSE in India’s financial ecosystem.
