A 10-carat blue diamond, hailed as one of the world’s rarest, is turning heads at a $100 million Sotheby’s exhibition in Abu Dhabi, where eight exceptional gems are on display ahead of a high-stakes auction in May.

A rare 10-carat blue diamond from South Africa dazzled visitors at a high-profile Sotheby’s exhibition in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, where eight of the world’s rarest diamonds — valued at a combined $100 million — are being showcased.

The exhibition, held in the UAE capital, features over 700 carats of exceptional gemstones, including red, yellow, pink, and colourless diamonds. But it was the vivid blue stone that captured the spotlight, with Sotheby’s describing it as one of the most significant blue diamonds ever discovered.

The diamond is expected to fetch around $20 million when it goes under the hammer in May.

Quig Bruning, Sotheby’s head of jewels for North America, Europe and the Middle East, said the decision to bring the exhibition to Abu Dhabi was driven by the region’s growing passion for high-value gemstones.

“We have great optimism about the region,” Bruning said. “We feel very strongly that this is the kind of place where you have both traders and collectors of diamonds of this importance and of this rarity.”
