The attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran valley claimed 26 lives on April 22, and has drawn widespread condemnation and prompted diplomatic responses from both countries.

Jaishankar, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledged the conversation and said, “Appreciate his unequivocal condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Agreed on the importance of accountability. India is resolved that the perpetrators, planners and backers of this attack are brought to justice.”

Guterres offers to mediate amid concerns
The Secretary-General expressed “deep concern at rising tensions between India and Pakistan” and warned the risk of a confrontation with “tragic consequences,” Dujarric said at a UN press briefing.
Guterres offered his “good offices to support any de-escalation efforts,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pak PM Sharif, reaffirmed Pakistan’s “condemnation of terrorism in all its forms” but rejected what he described as “baseless Indian accusations.”

UNGA president calls for restraint
Philemon Yang, President of the 79th UN General Assembly, echoed concerns of Guterres.
In a statement shared by the Office of the President of the General Assembly, spokesperson Sharon Birch said that Yang is “deeply concerned by the escalation of violence” and stressed that “the targeting of civilians is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances,” reported PTI.
Yang also urged both sides to resolve the situation through diplomatic means.
