Pahalgam terror attack: India closes airspace for all Pakistani flights

Date:

In a major development following the Pahalgam terror attack, India on Wednesday closed its airspace to aircraft registered, operated, owned, or leased by Pakistani airlines. The restriction applies to both civilian and military aircraft.A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued that bars Pakistan airlines from using the Indian airspace.

Earlier, Pakistan had closed its airspace to Indian airlines. Additionally, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, revoked visas for Pakistani citizens, and is planning staff reductions at both high commissions.

The announcement comes amid rising tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, in which at least 26 tourists were killed by terrorists reportedly linked to Pakistan. The attack occurred shortly after a provocative speech by Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir.
