On the night intervening May 9 and 10, Pakistan escalated the conflict with India in three ways within 12 hours — first, by moving on from loitering munitions to launching ‘high speed missiles’ (also called cruise missiles), second, smaller drones making way for attacks by full-scale fighter jets on Indian territory, and lastly, the Pakistan army starting to move its troops towards the border with India overnight.India maintained that it has only targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan and its military establishments, so far, while Pakistan continues to target civilians, residential areas and places of worship in India.. Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Udhampur, Awantipora, Reasi, Poonch, Nagrota, Akhnoor, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ferozpur, Srinagar, are among the areas that Pakistan has targeted.
India’s ministry of external affairs and ministry of defence, in its briefing on Saturday morning, said Pakistan’s actions are escalatory and provocative. External affairs minister S Jaishankar said India’s response in return has been ‘measured and responsible’.
