1 / 9The Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH) Rashtriya Sarvekshan has released its results, highlighting the top-performing states and union territories in school education. (Image X)2 / 9The PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan, formerly known as the National Achievement Survey (NAS), was conducted by NCERT’s National Assessment Centre on December 4 last year. It assessed the performance of 21,15,022 students from both government and private schools in Grades 3, 6 and 9 spread throughout 74,229 schools in 781 districts, spanning 36 states and UTs. (Image X)3 / 9Notably, in the evaluation of learning outcomes, Punjab has outperformed other states, including Kerala, which is known for being the most literate state in India, as per the Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan-2024, released by the Ministry of Education (MoE). In the survey, the state scored 80 in grade 3, 67 in grade 6, and 57 in grade 9. (Image X)4 / 9Top and worst performers: Punjab, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan were consistently among the top ten states throughout all three grades. In contrast, J&K and Meghalaya were among the 10 worst-performing states across all three categories, with West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand performing poorly in two grades. (Image X)5 / 9Class 3: In 3rd grade, the top 10 performing states and UTs in school education are Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Manipur, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Sahebganj in Jharkhand, as well as Reasi and Rajouri in Jammu & Kashmir, were the lowest-performing districts for this category. (Image X)6 / 9Class 6: According to the survey, Kerala, Punjab, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Goa, and Sikkim were the best performers. Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, and South West Garo Hills were the three districts with the lowest performance in this category. (Image X)7 / 9Class 9: For Grade 9, Punjab, Kerala, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Rajasthan, Odisha, Goa, and Maharashtra emerged as the top performers. The districts with the lowest performance in this category were South West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills of Meghalaya and Shi Yomi in Arunachal Pradesh. (Image X)8 / 9School performance: Kendriya Vidyalayas recorded low performance in Mathematics for Grade 3, while government-aided and state government schools showed weak performance in Mathematics for Grade 6. Students from Kendriya Vidyalayas excelled highest in Grade 9 across all subjects, particularly language. (Image X)9 / 9Telangana’s ranking: According to the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan, Telangana has shown significant improvement. Its national ranking in Class 3 has risen from 36th to 26th after the most recent evaluation round in 2021. It also ranked 26th in Class 6 and 17th in Class 9 among 36 states and Union Territories.
