Currently on an official visit to Singapore, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met several political and business leaders with an aim to deepen collaboration and trade between the two countries. He held discussions with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on strengthening economic partnership, covering areas from industrial park development to emerging technologies like AI, as part of the broader strategic economic partnership between the nations.In a follow-up interaction after the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, which was earlier held in New Delhi, he met Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan for discussions on advancing cooperation in trade and investment.He addressed the ‘India-Singapore Networking Roundtable for Trade and Investment’ with leading Singaporean and Indian industry leaders, where he highlighted opportunities in manufacturing, deep tech, and innovation in India, along with new avenues for collaboration arising from a stronger India-Singapore economic partnership. Addressing a Business Roundtable on ‘Unlocking India Advantage’, with participation from stakeholders of AmCham, EuroCham, British Chambers, JETRO, and other business leaders, he pointed to investment and collaborative opportunities in India’s manufacturing sector, emphasising the government’s focus on ease of doing business, innovation, and policy reforms aimed at positioning India as an attractive destination for high-value manufacturing.His meetings with Bryan Yeo, CEO-Designate of GIC, and Dilhan Pillay, CEO of Temasek, focused on scaling up India-focused portfolios across infrastructure, hospitality, renewable energy, financial services, and urban development.The Minister welcomed Royal Golden Eagle Group’s (RGE) upcoming Greenfield project in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, to produce next-gen manmade fibre, while meeting the company’s President Tey Wei Lin. He noted that the eco-friendly technology will create jobs, strengthen India’s textiles value chain, and deepen economic ties. He also held discussions with CapitaLand Investment’s Group CEO Lee Chee Koon and Senior Executive Director Manohar Khiatani on advancing sustainable urban development and infrastructure expansion in India, particularly in logistics, warehousing, and data centers.In a meeting with Chin Yau Seng, CEO of Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC), discussions focused on strengthening India-Singapore cooperation in the aviation Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) sector, as well as exploring new avenues for collaboration in innovation, skill development, and investment to boost India’s growing aerospace ecosystem and enhance global connectivity.
