PM Modi arrives in Croatia on historic first-ever visit by an Indian prime minister

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Zagreb on Wednesday (June 18), marking the final leg of his three-nation tour and making history as the first Indian prime minister to visit Croatia. PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and meet President Zoran Milanović during his stay.

The visit aims to enhance cooperation across key areas, with a focus on expanding economic, defence, and cultural ties between the two countries.
This high-level engagement comes after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s 2021 visit to Croatia, which was the first by an Indian foreign minister. The two nations also signed a memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation in 2023.Earlier in the day, PM Modi concluded what he described as a “productive” visit to Canada, where he attended the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis on the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

During the summit, PM Modi held discussions with global leaders on pressing international challenges and collective aspirations for a better future. His visit to Canada followed a stop in Cyprus.
