PM Modi meets JD Vance, attends India-France CEO Forum and lands in Marseille on day 2 of France visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President JD Vance and his family, attended the India-France CEOs Forum and landed in Marseille on the second day of his three-day France visit.The Prime Minister met Vance, his Indian-origin wife Usha Vance and their sons on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit in Paris. “We had a great conversation on various subjects,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

He then attended the India-France CEO Forum with France President Emmanuel Macron. The Prime Minister said the forum plays a key role in strengthening economic ties and fostering innovation. He said he was glad to see business leaders from both countries collaborate and create new opportunities across key sectors.

The two leaders then landing in Marseille, which the Prime Minister said holds special significance in India’s quest for freedom as it was here that freedom fighter Veer Savarkar attempted an escape.He thanked the people of Marseille and the French activists at the time who demanded that Savarkar not be handed over to British custody.

The Prime Minister said his visit to Marseille will comprise important programmes aimed at further connecting India and France.

PM Modi and Macron will visit the Mazargues War Cemetery, which is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Marseille to pay their tribute to the sacrifices the Indian soldiers made in World War I. They will then inaugurate the new Consulate General of India in Marseille. The two leaders are also scheduled to visit Cadarache, which is the site of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a high-science project.

After his visit to France, the Prime Minister will fly to the US, for the second leg of his two-nation tour, from February 12 to 13. He is set to meet US President Donald Trump on February 13 and discussions are likely to focus on reducing import tariffs, increasing purchases of US energy and defence equipment and addressing long-standing trade issues.
