PM Modi welcomes Trump’s peace plan to resolve Israel-Gaza conflict

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (September 30) welcomed US President Donald Trump’s proposal to resolve the Gaza conflict. He described it as a constructive step toward lasting peace, security, and development for both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as the broader West Asian region. In a post on X following Trump’s announcement, Modi said, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region. We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”

Trump and Netanyahu revealed the plan on September 29, though it remains uncertain whether Hamas will accept its terms. The proposal outlines a 20-point framework aimed at ending the Israel-Hamas war and includes the formation of a temporary governing board for Gaza. The board would be chaired by Trump and include figures such as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.Trump’s ‘Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict’ entails that Gaza will be a deradicalised terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbours and will be redeveloped.

“If both sides agree to this proposal, the war will immediately end. Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed upon line to prepare for a hostage release. During this time, all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, will be suspended, and battle lines will remain frozen until conditions are met for the complete staged withdrawal,” according to the plan that also calls for all hostages, whether alive and deceased, to be returned within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement.

Once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 life sentence prisoners and 1700 Gazans who were detained after October 7, 2023, including all women and children.

For every Israeli hostage whose remains are released, Israel will release the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.
